***google-top-1.shtml*** This is the second flower image gallery taken from photographs I made while I was artist-in-residence
in Pont Aven in France, a thriving artists' town in the Brittany region where the famous painters
Gauguin and Serusier lived and work for many years. Brittany is a magical place and
Pont Aven is a mini-paradise for art lovers.
In summer, there are
are over 100 galleries to visit, with painters, photographers, glass-blowers and other
artisans from all over the world showing their work. This is particlarly astonishing when you realise that
Pont Aven is a small town of just 3,000 inhabitants.
Many of the artists come just for the summer season as Pont
Aven attracts so many visitors. It is situated on an estuary and has wonderful woodlands
and beaches nearby - add in great weather and it is idyllic to say the least... (more below).
The residency lasted two months but was extended for an extra month with money awarded
by the Scottish Executive so that I could complete the photographic work I had started.
I spent most of my time in a wonderful botanical garden near Pont Aven called Les Jardins de Rospico. Most
of the time I was on my knees, with a macro lens on my camera, in close dialogue with poppies, lilies,
and other beautiful flowers.
The photographs I made at that time formed an exhibition
which was shown in the gallery space of the Comité Régional du Tourisme de Bretagne in
Paris the following year. Some of these photos were enlarged and exhibited out of doors at
Les Jardins de Rospico. As you can see from the image to the left, I also created a book
containing many of the images to accompany the exquisite love poems of writer and editor John Hudson. Click the image to see a
15-page flip-page preview.
I hope you enjoy looking at the selection of photos I've chosen for this flower image gallery which
I think conveys why I love macro photography. Just click on any of above thumbnails to launch the slideshow. For more
information including how to purchase a print for a particular photograph, click the caption from within the slideshow.
